Between Birmingham and Bristol, Southwest of Gloucester lies the majestic Forest of Dean (forest in the valleys) with plenty of attractions and adventures, 4 little towns of Cinderford, Coleford, Lydney and Newent each offering something different, and many historic and unspoilt villages, each with their own charm and character is little known but worthwhile to visit. Nestled throughout the district are butchers, bakers, bookshops and gift shops, as well as delicatessens offering a range of local quality produce. Some spectacular local products from vineyards, orchards, farms and breweries create some of the most unique flavours in the UK, e.g. Smarts Traditional Cheeses create the renowned 'Stinking Bishop Cheese' while 'The Curse of the Were-Rabbit'brewery at Cinderford supplies the 'Freeminer' beer exclusively for the local Co-Op. Try the Glorious Food Day trips. The area's craft centres are also great places to spend a few hours, attend courses and get lots of ideas for crafted unique gifts and souvenirs.
This area offers hikes, biking, canoeying, tree-top climbing, sight-seeing etc. for a couple of days or a week. It lies between Birmingham and Bristol, Southwest of Gloucester.
The northern part of the district is home to wild daffodils centred around the villages of Dymock, Kempley and Oxenhall. Travel further south, and you'll find e.g. picturesque villages of Newland, St Briavels and Brockweir.
